THE-216 Voice and Diction

The course primarily focuses on physical awareness and relaxation in order to free the voice for expressive performance and communication. Secondarily, the mechanics, articulation, and vocal techniques vital to stage performers are explored. This is a physical course that uses exercises to free the voice and develop effective breathing, flexibility of vocal production, and projection. The introductory study of the International Phonetic Alphabet and its application to stage dialects will also be explored. This is a course primarily for performers, not for practicing public speaking.
