ENGL-2610 Craft: Race and Sexualities
(CREATIVE EXPRESSION) This workshop-style class explores the intimate ways that sexualities and race entwine in contemporary culture, historically, and in our own lives, creating some of the most controversial and compelling issues of our time. Investigating such works as Claudia Rankine’s Citizen, Dorothy Chan’s Return of the Chinese Femme, and Nepantla: An Anthology Dedicated to Queer Poets of Color, students will explore—and compose original works within—the genres of poetry and creative nonfiction and will also investigate social media and themes, engaging such topics as race, gender and empire; queer sexualities; and strategies for social empowerment such as Black Lives Matter and feminism(s).
